Ratson Partners with The Luminos Fund to Deliver Structured Accelerated Learning Program in Ada’a District

Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) form the core of a child's lifelong educational journey. To tackle existing national gaps in foundational skills, Ratson, in technical and financial partnership with The Luminos Fund, successfully hosted an intensive five-day training workshop focused on the Structured Accelerated Learning Program (SALP).

Held at Tokuma Primary School in Ada’a District, Ethiopia (August 30 – September 4, 2026), the initiative brought together a critical group of local educational stakeholders.

Building Capacity at the Grassroots
A total of 42 primary education professionals—including 15 women—participated in the training. The cohort included:

Classroom primary school teachers

Cluster supervisors

Ada’a District Education Office experts

The workshop focused on equipping educators with Activity-Based Learning (ABL) methodologies. Rather than relying on traditional rote learning, ABL equips teachers to build dynamic, safe, and child-centered environments where young learners can build core literacy and numeracy competencies effectively.

High-Level Regional Support and Directives
The importance of the SALP initiative was reflected in the strong presence of local and regional educational authorities. Officials from the Oromia Education Bureau, the East Shewa Zone Education Office, and the Ada’a District Education Office were present to deliver key policy directives.

Regional leadership explicitly underscored that SALP is a priority regional initiative spearheaded by the Oromia Education Bureau. Officials urged every participating teacher, supervisor, and specialist to embrace full ownership of these new methodologies and actively drive their implementation in their home schools.

The success of this workshop reflects a shared, long-term commitment between Ratson and The Luminos Fund to enhance educational quality, support educators, and invest in child development across Ethiopia. By training the professionals who shape the classroom experience every day, the program sets a solid foundation for sustainable, positive change in primary education.
